What should a Columbus SEO company actually do for you?
Four things, and they are ordinary. Flip the toggle to see what changes when they are done for you rather than by you.
Doing it yourself
On the plan
Technical: you run a speed test once a year and hope the theme update did not break anything.
Content: a page per service, written once, city name swapped in.
Business information: the phone number is right on the website and wrong on three directories.
Measurement: you look at rankings when a customer mentions Google.
Technical: crawl, index and Core Web Vitals issues found and fixed at the source, then watched.
Content: pages built around the questions Columbus customers type, with the specifics a template cannot supply.
Business information: name, address, phone, hours and categories aligned everywhere they appear.
Measurement: reported from your own Search Console and analytics, in your name, every month.
Technical foundation
Pages built around real questions
Consistent business information
Measurement you can verify

How Columbus's growth changes the plan
Columbus is the one market in this set that is still growing, and the growth is not downtown. The city added 32,181 people between the 2020 Census and the Census Bureau’s 1 July 2025 estimate of 938,396, and the ten-county metro gained more than 21,000 people in a single year to reach 2,242,028. Most of it lands along the Outerbelt, in Dublin, Westerville, Worthington, Hilliard and Grove City. A service radius drawn from downtown treats those as edges. For most trades they are the market.
Health care is one system more than the others. OhioHealth counts 35,000 associates, physicians and volunteers, 16 hospitals plus three joint ventures, and more than 200 ambulatory sites across 50 counties. Office employment is finance and insurance: according to the Columbus Region partnership, JPMorgan Chase employs 17,480 people here and Nationwide 16,000 at its headquarters, with Amazon, Honda and Cardinal Health each above 8,000.
Two projects tell you where demand is going and when. Anduril’s Arsenal-1, five million square feet by Rickenbacker airport on the south side, delivered its first aircraft in July 2026, three months early, on the way to 4,008 jobs by 2035. Intel’s Ohio One in New Albany was announced in 2022 to open within three years; the first fab is now due by 2031, with more than $5 billion already in the ground. The south side is getting a payroll now. The north-east is getting one five years later than everyone planned for.
The anchors that move demand in Franklin County
| Anchor | What it is | Why it changes your marketing |
|---|---|---|
| OhioHealth | 35,000 associates, physicians and volunteers, 16 hospitals plus three joint ventures, and more than 200 ambulatory sites across 50 counties. | The largest health system in the region sets referral and vendor patterns across the whole metro, not one side of it. |
| JPMorgan Chase | 17,480 employees in the region, the largest private office employer, with Nationwide’s 16,000 headquarters staff beside it. | Two campuses of office workers, north-west and downtown, shape lunch, commute and home-service demand for miles around them. |
| Anduril Arsenal-1 | Five million square feet on 500 acres by Rickenbacker airport. First aircraft delivered July 2026, three months early; 4,008 jobs committed by 2035. | The south side is getting a defence payroll now, not in a plan. Businesses along the Rickenbacker corridor inherit it first. |
| Intel Ohio One | Nearly 1,000 acres in New Albany, announced in 2022 to open within three years. First fab now due by 2031, with more than $5 billion already in the ground. | Any page or plan built around a 2025 Intel boom is dated. The demand is real and five years late, which is its own planning problem. |

What is included, and what we will not claim
The ordinary work done properly, and the one claim you will not hear from us.
The plan covers the technical audit and fixes, pages built for Columbus queries, consistent business information, and monthly reporting from your own accounts. Paid ads are run and priced separately. Plans and prices are on the pricing page.
What we will not claim is a map pack position. Our own Google Business Profile is not verified, so we do not appear in a map pack anywhere, and Google’s verification guidance explains why a genuine presence in the city is required for one.
The Columbus results page, trade by trade
We measured what a Columbus customer actually sees when they search for a roofer, a plumber or an electrician. Roofing, HVAC and restoration open with a wall of ads. Dentistry and landscaping have no paid listing in the map pack at all. In five of the eight trades, a discussion thread holds the first organic slot. It is why paid and organic get planned together here, and why no one on this page promises you a map pack position.
What your customers see when they search
Pick a trade. Each results page was measured on a desktop browser with personalization switched off and the location set to Columbus, Ohio. Slots are described by type, not by name.
“roofer columbus ohio”
- Text ads 241px
- Map pack 1,011px
- Paid listing inside the pack 1,069px
- First organic result 1,786px
- People also ask 1,943px
Who holds the top 8 organic slots
- 3 Local or regional roofers
- 1 National franchise page
- 2 Directories
- 1 Lead marketplace
- 1 Forum thread
An ad wall. Text ads fill the first screen, the map pack starts at 1,011 pixels with a paid entry near the top, and the first organic slot at 1,786 pixels is a Reddit thread asking for recommendations. Only three of the top eight organic slots are local or regional roofers, with a national franchise, two directories and a lead marketplace around them. A Columbus roofer needs paid search and a real page, and the organic band is thinner than it looks.
“hvac repair columbus ohio”
- Text ads 241px
- Map pack 670px
- Paid listing inside the pack 728px
- First organic result 1,445px
- People also ask 1,750px
Who holds the top 8 organic slots
- 5 Local HVAC companies
- 1 Directory
- 1 Lead marketplace
- 1 Forum thread
Two text ads, then the map pack at 670 pixels with a paid listing at the top, then the organic band from 1,445 pixels, nearly two screens down. A Reddit thread holds the first organic slot, and five of the remaining seven are local companies, which is a strong band once you are in it. Paid and organic get planned together here.
“plumber columbus ohio”
- Map pack 257px
- Paid listing inside the pack 315px
- First organic result 1,032px
- People also ask 1,430px
Who holds the top 8 organic slots
- 4 Local plumbers
- 1 Directory
- 1 Lead marketplace
- 1 National brand
- 1 Forum thread
No text ads on this pass. The map pack fills the first screen with a paid listing at the top, and the organic band starts at 1,032 pixels with a discussion thread in the first slot. Four of the top eight slots are local plumbers, one is a national brand, one a lead marketplace. A winnable band for a plumber with a real Columbus page, starting a full screen down.
“electrician columbus ohio”
- Map pack 257px
- Paid listing inside the pack 315px
- First organic result 1,032px
- People also ask 1,211px
Who holds the top 8 organic slots
- 3 Local electrical contractors
- 2 Directories
- 1 National franchise
- 1 Lead marketplace
- 1 Forum thread
Pack first, with a paid listing at the top of it, then the organic band from 1,032 pixels. A Reddit thread holds the first organic slot, a local contractor the second, and the rest is split between directories, a national franchise and a lead marketplace. Only three local contractors appear, which means room for an electrician who publishes a real Columbus page.
“dentist columbus ohio”
- Map pack 257px
- First organic result 811px
- People also ask 1,116px
Who holds the top 8 organic slots
- 6 Local practices
- 1 Insurer directory
- 1 University dental clinic
No text ads and no paid listing in the pack. The map pack takes the first screen and the organic band starts at 811 pixels, just under the fold, with an insurer directory first and a practice second. Six of the top eight organic slots are practices. Of the eight trades measured, this is the page where a Columbus practice website competes most directly.
“landscaping company columbus ohio”
- Map pack 257px
- First organic result 849px
- People also ask 1,472px
Who holds the top 8 organic slots
- 4 Local landscapers
- 1 National commercial company
- 2 Directories
- 1 Forum thread
Unlike Cleveland, no ad wall and no paid entry in the pack. The map pack fills the first screen and the organic band starts at 849 pixels, just under the fold, with a Reddit thread first and a national commercial landscaper second. Four local companies hold slots below them. A page written for Columbus neighbourhoods rather than the region has room here.
“water damage restoration columbus ohio”
- Text ads 241px
- Map pack 857px
- Paid listing inside the pack 915px
- First organic result 1,632px
- People also ask 1,937px
Who holds the top 8 organic slots
- 5 National franchise and brand pages
- 1 Local company
- 2 Directories
The hardest page in this set. Text ads fill the first screen, the map pack starts at 857 pixels with a paid listing at the top, and the organic band from 1,632 pixels is owned by national franchise and brand pages, five of the top eight. One local company holds a slot. An independent restoration firm here is competing with brands on paid, in the pack and in organic at once.
“solar panel cleaning columbus ohio”
- AI Overview 252px
- First organic result 662px
- Map pack 817px
- People also ask 1,626px
Who holds the top 8 organic slots
- 3 Local companies
- 1 National franchise
- 2 Directories
- 1 Forum thread
- 1 Other
An AI Overview at the top, then a Reddit thread at 662 pixels, then the map pack at 817 pixels, and only after that the first company site at about 1,950 pixels. Three of the top eight organic slots are local companies, one is a national franchise, two are directories. The AI Overview and the thread outrank the pack here, which is unusual, and a page written to be cited has a real opening.
Fold line drawn at 778 pixels, a common laptop viewport. Positions move a little day to day; the shape of each page does not.
Where Columbus customers actually come from
The Outerbelt does the sorting. I-270 loops the city in 55 miles and meets I-70 twice, I-71 twice, and US 23, US 33 and Route 315 along the way, so a Columbus customer thinks in terms of which stretch of the loop they live on. I-670 runs across the north side to the airport, and inside the loop the Innerbelt of I-670, Route 315, I-70 and I-71 boxes in downtown. High Street is the north-south spine. Where a business sits on those roads decides who can reach it inside twenty minutes, which is the number that governs a local service purchase. Search Console will show which of these your customers actually come from within a few weeks of connecting it.
- North: the Short North, Victorian Village and Clintonville up High Street, then Worthington, Westerville and Dublin on the Outerbelt.
- South: German Village and the Brewery District, then Grove City on I-71 and the Rickenbacker corridor where Arsenal-1 is hiring.
- East and west: Gahanna and the airport off I-670; Franklinton and Hilliard off I-70 west.
- Up I-70 and I-77: Dover, where we are based, is about two hours east, with Akron and Cleveland north of it as separate markets.

Columbus SEO company questions, answered
The questions Columbus business owners ask before an engagement starts, including the ones Google shows alongside this search.
Do you work with businesses in Columbus?
Yes. Muon Marketing is based in Dover, Ohio, about two hours east on I-70, and Columbus is the largest market we serve. We work remotely with businesses across Franklin County and the Outerbelt suburbs, and the work is planned suburb by suburb rather than for the metro as a whole.
What does an SEO company actually do in a market that grows this fast?
It keeps up. Columbus adds tens of thousands of people a year and most of them land in the suburbs along I-270, so the keyword set, the pages and the business information get built for the stretch of the loop your customers live on, then extended as your enquiry records show new ones. Under that it is the ordinary work: technical fixes, pages written to what Franklin County customers type, consistent business information, and reporting from your own Search Console.
How much does it cost to hire a Columbus SEO company?
Ours is published on the pricing page: flat monthly plans, and a performance model that combines a monthly fee with a price per qualified lead. In Columbus the budget question splits by trade. Roofing, HVAC and restoration results pages open with a wall of text ads, so paid search has to be planned alongside. Dentistry and landscaping have no paid listing in the map pack at all, and the flat plan alone is the right size for those.
Should I target Columbus or my suburb?
Your suburb, almost always. Dublin, Westerville, Hilliard and Grove City are each the size of a mid-sized Ohio city and each has its own results page. A customer in Westerville is choosing between businesses within twenty minutes of Westerville, not scanning a metro of two million. We build for the suburb first and add the neighbouring stretch of the Outerbelt when your enquiry records show it.
Is SEO still worth it in Columbus in 2026?
For most Columbus businesses, yes, and the evidence is on the results pages. When we measured eight trades in September 2026, a Reddit thread asking for recommendations held the first organic slot in five of them. That is what a thin organic band looks like: Google could not find a better page. A real page about a real suburb, written to be cited, has room in Columbus that it does not have in Cleveland.
Does the Intel delay change anything for a local business?
Yes, in both directions. Intel’s first New Albany fab is now due by 2031, so anything built for a 2025 boom in Licking County is waiting. Meanwhile Anduril’s Arsenal-1 by Rickenbacker delivered its first aircraft in July 2026, three months early, on the way to 4,008 jobs. Plan pages for the south side that is hiring now and hold the north-east until the date is real.
Do I need a physical office in Columbus to be found there?
For the map pack, a verified Google Business Profile with a genuine presence in the city is what Google’s verification guidance requires, and our own profile is unverified, so we do not appear in one. For the organic results, no. In five of the eight Columbus trades we measured, the first organic slot is a discussion thread, which means an office in Hilliard with a real Hilliard page competes as well as one downtown.
Do you cover Dublin, Westerville and Grove City as well?
Yes, and each is its own market with its own page on this site. Dublin sits on the north-west of the Outerbelt, Westerville on the north-east, Grove City on the south-west along I-71. Cleveland and Akron, up I-71 and I-77, are separate metros with their own pages. Your enquiry records will show which of the Outerbelt suburbs your customers actually come from.
